MCC named among Most Promising Places to Work in Community Colleges

May 9, 2023

McLennan Community College was one of only 20 from across the country recognized by the National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development (NISOD) and Diverse: Issues In Higher Education (Diverse) as one of the 2023 Most Promising Places to Work in Community Colleges. This is the fifth time for MCC to win the award.

The annual award recognizes community and technical colleges committed to diversity through best-in-class student and staff recruitment and retention practices, inclusive learning and working environments, and meaningful community service and engagement opportunities. The national study employs a web-based survey approach to obtain information from NISOD member institutions. A multipart, weighted algorithm is used to classify the responding institutions.

“Our core value that “inclusiveness matters” causes us to care about creating “a civil, welcoming environment where our diverse community of students and employees learn, teach, and work together.” Thus, our selection as one of the most promising places to work in community colleges is meaningful to our campus. We desire to be a place where our employees choose to work and where students feel welcome, and this award validates our commitment,” MCC President Dr. Johnette McKown said.

The award-winning institutions will be recognized during NISOD’s International Conference of Teaching and Leadership Excellence, May 27-30, in Austin, Texas. Additionally, award recipients receive a specially-designed logo that can be used to promote the institution’s commitment to diversity during student and staff recruitment efforts, as well as during other times when they want to highlight their commitment to inclusiveness. The awarded colleges are also featured in Diverse’s newsmagazine, the only bi-weekly national publication focusing on matters of access and opportunity for all in higher education.

“We are proud to honor these colleges for their sustained commitment to diversity,” said Edward J. Leach, NISOD’s Executive Director. “We are also pleased about the large number of applications this year. It shows that a growing number of colleges appreciate how critical diversity and inclusion initiatives are to their campuses and communities.”
